Greenleaf ratings break records as one of the most watched shows on television.
The new Greenleaf scripted drama series starring Oprah Winfrey, debuted on Tuesday and had the cable network’s best-ever ratings in its target demographic.
According to Variety, “Among women ages 25-54, Greenleaf drew 3.04 million viewers and a 2.18 rating in Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers.”
Those numbers are so great that makes it the number 2 cable premiere in the demographic in 2016 so far, just behind the hit FX series The People Vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
Greenleaf is “described as the center of the community for the thousands of predominantly African-American members who attend services there. But beneath its steeple lies a den of iniquity — greed, adultery, sibling rivalry and conflicting values.” The show was written by Craig Wright and executive produced by Winfrey and Clement Virgo.
