The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln will be leaving the zombie drama after the upcoming Season 9, according to reports by multiple news outlets.
Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, has become the lead protagonist of the series since the show first debuted. Rick’s son Carl (Chandler Riggs) died during Season 8, though both characters are still alive in the comic books written by the show’s creator Robert Kirkman. Lincoln will appear in six episodes next season, according to Collider.
Collider also reported that AMC has offered the leading role to Norman Reedus, who plays the role of Daryl Dixon.
Lincoln is not the only actor whose future on the show has been in left up in the air. Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, recently landed a new ABC series opposite Scott Foley called “Whiskey Cavalier.”
There have not been any reports whether or not Cohan would return after Season 8, but Cohan confirmed last month that she will be returning for at least six episodes in Season 9. During a panel for her upcoming movie Mile 22, Cohan said, “I’m going back. There’s a lot more Maggie story to tell.”
