The new Rings movie will be a prequel to The Ring.
Paramount Pictures is currently filming a new film in their ‘The Ring’ horror franchise and according to reports, the movie wil be called Rings.
In a recent report from Bloody Disgusting, it was revealed taht the movie is expected to be a prequel not a sequel as we initially thought.
From Bloody Disgusting:
“takes place before the 2002 remake that starred Naomi Watts as a woman uncovering the mystery behind a haunted VHS tape. Rings will take place years before the creation of said tape and tell the origin of Samara’s reign of terror.”
The franchise is based on a series of Japanese films called ‘Ringu’, and in 2000 they released a movie called Ring 0: Birthday. That movie takes place 30 years before their first film, and it tells the story of how Sadako (Samara) was murdered when she was 19 years old and became cursed. Who knows this next movie will most likely be based on that one.
Rings is being directed by F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall), from a script written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman. So far the only person cast in the movie is Matilda Lutz, and we don’t know who she’ll be playing. The movie is set to be released on November 13th, 2015, and Marinella Hume Casting is currently looking for actors, models, and talent to work on the upcoming feature film.
