TNT Renews ‘The Last Ship’ For Season 3

The Last Ship‘ has been renewed for season three, according to an announcement by TNT on Tuesday.

Currently in its second season, the Michael Bay production has been green-lit for another 13-episode season, which is expected to premiere in summer 2016.

The Navy-set action adventure is based on William Brinkley’s novel of the same name and revolves around a global apocalypse that nearly wipes out the world’s population, though the destroyer USS Nathan James avoids the tragedy, forcing its captain (Dane) and the ship’s crew to confront the new reality that they are probably all alone.

‘The Last Ship’s is one of the biggest caple scripted series for adults this summer. Currently, ‘The Last Ship’ is among the top three cable series in the key demographics, according to Nielsen. The show is currently averages around 4.6 million viewers.

Season two finale of ‘The Last Ship’ airs on Sept. 6.
