Fewer People are Now Playing Pokémon Go, Is the Trend Over?

Go daily active users are slipping, which begs the question – is the Pokemon fad over?

The hit app started to see a drop in daily active users on 14, only a week after was released, according to SurveyMonkey Intelligence. It was about 25 million active players in the United States that day, and that number has started to drop.

The company also reported the game’s peak number of downloads occurred on its U.S. launch day, July 7th. The company notes this was a major issue, when contrasting the game with other successful mobile games.

“Most successful apps, including previous record-setting hit games Draw Something and Saga, experience a slow start. These games hit their daily-download peaks some months after initial release,” the SurveyMonkey blog states.

It’s important to highlight that both of those titles didn’t come from established and franchises. Pokemon games have sold over 279 million copies in the past two decades. That doesn’t even include people who became fans from the or trading card games.

And while this data only includes U.S. users, and doesn’t include the 27 other countries currently playing the game, which which just launched in — the birthplace of Pokémon — on . There are still plenty of people without access to Pokemon Go. And the company announced plans to add new features including Pokemon breeding, customizable PokéStops and Pokémon Gym customizations.

Even though fewer maybe playing the app, a company that is earning millions per day is not going to let their mobile app crash and burn. In fact, Pokémon Go has remained at the top of the iOS App Store’s Most Downloaded and Highest Grossing rankings in its entire two-and-a-half-week run, according to App Annie data.
