Executive producer Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment decided to relocate production of the series from Atlanta to Toronto in order to take advantage of tax credits, a favourable exchange rate and other benefits. [via]
Toronto has had several African American productions, including 2005’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ starring 50 Cent, last year’s star-studded movie The Best Man Holiday, and the 2008 TV movie A Raisin in the Sun starring Sean Combs and Phylicia Rashad. Queen Latifah also previously revealed that she loved filming in Toronto. “I love Toronto. My experiences here have been great,” she told Global News. “I have friends who are like family to me that live not far from here, like in Peterborough and Whitby, so I get out into the town a little bit.
“Toronto is such a great example of how to have a multicultural city and how people can really enjoy each others’ cultures and it’s closer to what the world is really supposed to be like.”
It looks as though the Viacom network company is pulling the plug on Georgia and relocating elsewhere. Is this the start of a new trend? Probably not, Marvel has a ton of confidence in Georgia’s Film Commission. It was recently announced that ‘Captain America 3′ will be filmed in Atlanta, Georgia at the newly built Pinewood Studios.
