‘Selma’ Director Fires Back after Quentin Tarantino’s Insult

Date:

Quentin Tarantino’s diss of Ava DuVernay’s MLK biopic puts Tarantino in hot water.

Quentin Tarantino sparked controversy when the director dismissed Ava Duvernay’s Selma by telling Bret Easton Ellis in T: The New York Times Style Magazine that the Oscar-nominated civil rights drama “deserved an Emmy.” He would later clarify and say that he has never seen the movie.

Ava DuVernay is now responding to Tarantino’s insult, calling out the director. “I was surprised by how surprised everyone was. When you look at his work and his persona, there’s nothing surprising about what he said,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “But it didn’t bother me like so many assumed it would.”

Tarantino got in trouble several weeks ago after attending an anti-police brutality protest in New York City. His speech would later spark a nationwide boycott of his new movie The Hateful Eight.

Selma had four Golden Globe Award nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director, and Best Actor, and won for Best Original Song. It was also nominated for Best Picture and won Best Original Song at the 87th Academy Awards.
