The Pope has revealed he hasn’t watched TV since 1990.
Pope Francis has revealed that he has avoided the “temptation of television” since July 1990. The Pope said he gave up TV after promising the Virgin Mary he would stay away from it.
“I have not watched TV since 1990. It’s a promise that I made [to] the Virgin of Carmen on the night of July 15, 1990. I told myself: ‘It’s not for me’,” he said in an interview with Argentine newspaper La Voz del Pueblo that was reported in the Independent.
The Pope also revealed that he does not use the Internet and spends only 10 minutes a day reading a newspaper. The Pope however, is a huge soccer fan, does, however, manage to keep up with the scores for his beloved hometown team San Lorenzo of the Argentine league. “There is a Swiss Guard that every week tells me the results and how we are doing in the league table,” he said.
Also in the interview, the Pope spoke of his heavy workload, as well as going out for pizza, a simple pleasure that has become impossible since he became pontiff. “Take-away is not the same. The nice thing is to go to there, to the pizzeria,” he said.
