How Three 6 Mafia Was Bashed by Hollywood After the Oscars

Date:

Three 6 Mafia reveals winning an Academy Award is not all that it’s cracked up to be.

Ten years ago, the rap group Three 6 Mafia not only performed a song about a pimp at the , the group also took home an Academy Award.

Before or Terrence Howard starred in Empire, the movie Hustle and Flow showed the hope, grits, and despair of trying to become a rapper. And Three 6 Mafia captured that essence in their songs.

The judges of loved the song and awarded the group an Academy Award for Best Original Song. They were also hip-hop artists to ever to perform at the ceremony, which they did with Hustle & Flow Taraji P. Henson reprising her chorus.

So I was like, “What?! What are you talking about? I don’t have no brothers and sisters in Africa!”

However, as Three 6 Mafia explains in an with , Hollywood is not all that it’s cracked up to be. The group was rejected by Prince and bashed by Salma Hayek.

Russell Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons are there. Salma Hayek walked up to me — who I was super in with because of From Dusk Till Dawn with — and said the craziest shit: “You know your brothers and sisters are dying over in Africa because of all this jewelry you’re wearing.”

Because I guess we had those big ole watches they gave us on, and these platinum necklaces.

So I was like, “What?! What are you talking about? I don’t have no brothers and sisters in Africa!”

After having that awkward experience with their favorite actress, Three 6 Mafia decided to leave the party, and actress Carla Gugino yelled at the group.

She said, “You let the door slam in my face!” I was like, “Oh man, I’m sorry.” She just rolled her eyes and stomped off. I was like, “Oh my God, this is not the night for me and Hollywood chicks.”

To add insult to injury, after leaving the award show they tried going to a party at Prince’s house and that didn’t end well.

“Hey man, he turned us down.” I’m like, “What?!” I look out the limo window, and hundreds of people are streaming up into Prince’s house. I’m like, “That Prince is a motherf—er! You better go in there and tell that short purple-wearing thing how many Purple Rain albums I bought, OK?”

After an apparently crappy time they said, “We’re done. Let’s go to the hotel and go to sleep. Maybe this is a dream.”
