Does Georgia’s Film Industry Have a Wildfire Problem?

Date:

Wildfires are moving “dangerously close” to metro Atlanta.

According to the AJC, there have been nearly 200 calls about wildfires in the last week. Wildfires have spread across northern Georgia destroying nealry 20,000 acres. Consequently, smoke has drifted into Atlanta, Georgia creating a dark fog throughout the ATL. In fact, according fire officials, the fires are moving “dangerously close” to metro Atlanta. To make matters worse, the smoke is not expected to clear anytime soon.

Firefighters are currently working on trying to prevent the spread of the wildfires.

From the AJC:

Efforts to cap flames involved more than 200 people focused on the west and southwest sides of the fire Monday.

Susan Blake, a spokeswoman with the U.S. Forest Service, said crews worked along natural barriers, including streams and creeks. Their goal is to prevent the fire from moving westward.

Meanwhile, over 30 TV shows and movies are now filming across the state of Georgia and predominately in Atlanta, Georgia. If the continuous level of smoke continues, then it may be difficult for producers to film scenes on location and will be forced to film entire movies or TV shows in studios or travel to other cities such as Pennsylvania, who have recently expanded their film tax credit program.
