The “Racist” Adam Sandler ‘Ridiculous Six’ Movie is Breaking Netflix Records

Date:

After being called “unwatchable,” Netflix’s Ridiculous Six movie is breaking records

Over the holidays my family and I sat down by the fire and put on the new Adam Sandler movie, Ridiculous Six. But, after 15 minutes, I was forced to change the movie after everyone in the living room moaned and groaned over Sandler’s jokes. So, it comes to my surprise when I heard the news this morning that Netflix’s Ridiculous Six is breaking records as the most watched movie in Netflix history.

According to reports, Netflix CEO Reed Hasting and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos shared some insight into the company’s movie business as well as the performance of Adam Sandler’s new movie. Apparently, The Ridiculous Six has been seen more times in 30 days than any other movie Netflix history.

“It’s also enjoyed a spot at #1 in every territory we operate in, and in many of them it’s still #1,” Sarandos added. Netflix signed a deal with Sandler to produce four original movies with The Ridiculous Six being the first. “Adam believes his audience is mostly at home and he’s probably right,” Sarandos said in a recent interview with Variety.

But, it’s worth pointing out that the movie sparked controversy after Native American actors walked off the movie’s set after “racist” jokes were said in the script. According to reports, casting directors were forced to hire and paint white actors to replace all of the Native American actors who worked on the movie.

Netflix would later release a statement: “The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous,” said a Netflix spokesperson. “It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of — but in on — the joke.”
