Rocko’s Modern Life the Movie is coming soon to Nickelodeon.
The original NickToons first premiered 25 years ago. Amazingly, the classic TV shows Doug, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and Rugrats first aired across your TV screen over 20 years ago. And to celebrate, Nickelodeon is rebooting Rocko’s Modern Life.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Nickeloeon greenlit a TV movie of Rocko.
“I’m very happy to be rejoining Rocko and my friends from O-Town again,” creator Joe Murray, who will return as producer and co-director, said. Murray added, “What I have found by bringing these characters back is that it’s not so much about nostalgia, but a sense that they still feel relevant and fresh to me, and after 20 years, they can’t wait to comment on modern life in the 21st century. They still have a lot to say.”
Rocko’s Modern Life has a long history for its racy humor and adult innuendos. For example in the episode “Canned”, the instructions on the wall behind him remind all employees to “Be Hot, Be Naughty, and Be Courteous” while he flatly repeats “Oh baby” into the receiver.
In addition, episode “Leap Frogs” received “received complaints from parents” due to its sexual humor. Nickelodeon then removed the episode from air for the remainder of the show’s run, although it later aired on Netflix several years later.
Rock’s Modern Life is not the only show getting rebooted. Legends of the Hidden Temple and Hey Arnold! are also getting turned into a TV movie.
Details surrounding the upcoming reboot have not been released.
