Marvel Says They Are Not “Abandoning” Georgia

Date:

Georgia’s film industry is on fire and despite the fact that Marvel is no longer filming any major movies in the peach state, Marvel’s Vice President says the studio is not “abandoning” Georgia.

According to reports, David Grant, head of physical production at Marvel, said the studio has no plans to stop shooting in Atlanta.

“I’d like to squelch a rumor that I’ve been hearing for months and weeks, almost on a daily basis. I keep hearing that Marvel is abandoning Georgia. I don’t know where these rumors start. It’s not true. There’s no basis to it,” said Grant, who has worked on Marvel films such as “Ant-Man,” “Thor,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Doctor Strange.”

According to the L.A. Times, Marvel is currently shooting Captain Marvel in Los Angeles after receiving $20.8 million in tax credits. It is the first Marvel movie to film in California since Captain America: Winter Soldier in 2014.

Nowadays, most Marvel movies are either filmed in the United Kingdom or in Georgia.

Black Panther, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Captain America: Civil War, and Spider-Man: Homecoming all filmed in Georgia. Currently, three movies filmed in Atlanta are currently in post-production including Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Grant explains Marvel is experiencing a slowdown in movie production but expect the number of casting calls to increase in Georgia in the next few months.

“There’s a natural production gap coming up in our schedule; it’s really that simple,” he said. “So it’s with that I’m happy to announce that in the fall we start prep on another film in Atlanta. I’m not allowed to officially say what that title is, but maybe you can guess.”

Marvel has a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming and a third Guardians of the Galaxy movie coming soon.

Grant said the next film will start filming in February. Grant added, “Your film incentive works,” he said. “Keep doing it. Keep bringing it. We will come.”
