Idris Elba may be replacing Will Smith and suiting up as Deadshot in “Suicide Squad 2”.
According to reports, the actor is the “first and only choice” of director James Gunn and Warner Bros. to play the superhero in the upcoming sequel.
This news comes after Will Smith left the role in late February over scheduling conflicts. Smith’s decision was considered amicable between him and the studio. Fellow cast members including Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn in 2016, have not been confirmed for the sequel.

That said, it received negative reviews from critics, bashing the film’s plot, direction, and characters while praising Robbie’s acting. The film was nominated and won multiple awards including an Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 89th Academy Awards, it was the first film in the DCEU to win an Academy Award.
“Suicide Squad” 2 is expected to film in Atlanta, Georgia this fall and hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
