Idris Elba is in talks to star alongside Matthew McConaughey in Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.
Talk about a match made in heaven. Two of Hollywood’s biggest and most talented actors are talks to star in one of the most talked about franchise movies in recent history.
According to reports, Idris Elba is in early talks to play gunslinger Roland Deschain in Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, with Matthew McConaughey. Elba will play the villainous Man in Black.
Sony Pictures are financing the movie and Nikolaj Arcel will direct the script by legendary screenwriter Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner that’s primarily based on the Stephen King series The Gunslinger.
Elba has recently been sought out for several major motion pictures including The Mummy alongside Tom Cruise but, he passed on the project last week. According to sources close to TheWrap, he was waiting for McConaughey’s talks to move forward before considering The Dark Tower movie, as the two actors are interested in working together.
It is important to point out that Idris Elba was offered the lead role but, insisted on playing the villain instead after reading the script.
The Dark Tower centers around horror and fantasy in which a gunslinger has taken up the quest of finding The Dark Tower, which is the center of the universe, before evil invades and destroys the tower, ending all of humanity.
There is also talks for a companion TV series for the movie franchise. However, there are no reports on how the TV series will correlate with the movie or if Matthew McConaughey or Idris Elba will join the cast of the TV series.
