‘Friday the 13th’ Reboot Cancelled

Date:

Weeks before production was supposed to start, Paramount pulls the plug on ‘Friday the 13th’ reboot.

Just days after a casting call went viral and weeks before filming was set to begin, Paramount had reportedly shut down the latest sequel in the Friday the 13th series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount broke the news to the production company Platinum Dunes and the movie’s director, Breck Eisner, on Monday.

The exact reason as to why the film is not heading into production is not clear. However, it could stem from the box office flop Rings, which was also a reboot. Rings cost $25 million to film and ended up earning little more than half of that at the box office.

The movie was a reboot of the hit 1980 horror film which spawned 11 sequels over the course of 20 years.

Earlier this month, managers announced they were looking for actors to play to a young Jason for the upcoming Friday the 13th feature film. Also, Come Tour Georgia announced that the movie was already in pre-production in Atlanta, Georgia.
