Central Park explosion severs man’s foot. And nobody knows why.
A man was seriously injured by a mysterious explosive device in New York’s Central Park Sunday, according to reports. WABC-TV reported that the man was critically injured by the explosion, which it said occurred at 11 a.m. ET near Fifth Avenue and East 62nd Street.
An unnamed eyewitness said the man was climbing on a rock structure when he stepped on something that later exploded. The man suffered an injured leg and was being treated at the scene. Fire officials described the situation to the New York Daily News as “an amputation incident.”
Details surrounding the explosive device were immediately available. However, NBC 4 New York, says an unnamed senior law enforcement official reported that it appeared to be a firework device. But, bomb units were arriving at the scene.
