Hollywood cannot get enough of reboots. According to a new report, Lethal Weapon reboot is currently in the works at Fox.
Fox has put forward a new TV pilot for the Lethal Weapon reboot. Based on the feature film starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, the reboot, which was supposed to appear on NBC, comes from Warner Bros. Television, whose film department, Warner Bros. Pictures, produced the original movies.
Like the movies, the TV version will center around a Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs, which was originally played by Mel Gibson) who, following the loss of his family, moves to Los Angeles to start a new life and career. There, he gets partnered with family man and LAPD detective Roger Martaugh (Danny Glover) who, recently suffered a minor heart attack and is trying to avoid as much stress in his life as possible.
The new Lethal Weapon remake will be written by Matt Miller who is known for writing Forever and Chuck.
Unlike most reboots, this reboot will not have the original producers involved in the TV version.
The original Lethal Weapon made $120 million worldwide when it opened in 1987. It would later create a franchise spawning three sequels helping Warner Bros. Pictures earn $835 million worldwide.
Lethal Weapon is just the latest of several other reboots headed into production. For example, there’s a Behind Enemy Lines, Training Day, Rush Hour, LImitless, Heroes, The Notebook, Friday the 13th, The A-Team, 24, and MacGyver reboots headed into production.
