‘Independence Day 2’ cast Will Smith’s replacement and he’s a relatively unknown actor.
‘Independence Day 2’ is ramping up production and producers are looking beyond the overrated actor, Will Smith.
According to Variety, Independence Day 2 has cast Survivor’s Remorse leading actor, Jessie Usher as the lead in the upcoming feature film.
Fox has cast “Survivor’s Remorse” star Jessie Usher in “Independence Day 2″ as the lead. He’s the first cast member attached to the sequel.
Usher will portray the son of Will Smith’s Steven Hiller character from the 1996 original. Smith is not expected to return.
Director Roland Emmerich will return to helm “Independence Day 2,” set for release on June 24, 2016 — almost exactly 20 years from when the first film hit theaters on July 3, 1996. Dean Devlin, Emmerich and Harald Kloser are producing.
Will Smith recently declined the offer to work on a Independence Day 2 movie which put big shoes for any actor to fill. After watching Survivor’s Remorse Season 1 on Starz, I am not too sure if Usher can fill Will Smith’s shoes. However, with a stellar supporting cast, it may take Jessie Usher’s career to a new level and provide a quite entertaining movie nearly a decade later.
