Dr. Dre is reportedly developing a new Marvin Gaye biopic.
Variety reports Dr. Dre is making a movie about Marvin Gaye. The film is still in early development, but Variety says that the rights to use Gaye’s music has been acquired. It is important to note that there have been several attempts at making a Marvin Gaye biopic. Most recently, Jamie Foxx was supposed to produce a TV series on Gaye’s life.
This is not Dr. Dre’s first venture in the film industry. His latest project, Straight Outta Compton was a box office hit. Dr. Dre produced the project alongside Ice Cube. Straight Outta Compton grossed $161.2 million in the United States and Canada and $40.4 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $201.6 million. Deadline Hollywood calculated the net profit of the film to be $91.1 million when factoring together all expenses and revenues for the film.
