Chris Hemsworth Calls Acting “Suffocating” and “Self-Absorbed”

Date:

Actor Chris Hemsworth had a lot to say about Hollywood and acting during a recent photo shoot.

During an interview with Modern Luxury magazine, according to Just Jared, the 32-year-old actor was asked how Hollywood affects him. Hemsworth explained that he loves working as an actor, but also revealed that there’s a darkside to acting.

“I love what I do as an actor, but when you are surrounded by it constantly, it becomes a bit suffocating. It’s nice to have conversations with people and be a part of a community that doesn’t live and breathe that world. We were living shoulder to shoulder in the suburbs and thought that’s not how we want our kids to grow up.”

Chris and Elsa would get engaged the same year and married in 2010. Chris Hemsworth first became a father when Elsa gave birth to their daughter India Rose in May of 2012. During the same interview with Modern Luxury, Chris Hemsworth did not just talk about his busy acting schedule. He also apparently opened up about his experience as a father of three, explaining how fatherhood is “refreshing” for him. However, he also explained there’s a big difference between acting and being a father.

“It’s no longer all about me, which is quite refreshing. Acting is the most self-absorbed world, where you are thinking about your feelings. How do I feel in this scene? How do I feel about that? You are constantly having to self-analyze or analyze a character you are playing, so you are internalizing and thinking, thinking, thinking about me. ‘Oh, I didn’t get that…and I wanted that one, and am I any good?’ It’s just a horrible, noisy conversation. Once the kids arrived, I was like, ‘Wow, this is what life is about.’”

Hemsworth’s last movie didn’t do do well in the box office. In fact, Heart of the Sea, flopped in the box office. According to VarietyIn the Heart of the Sea debuted earning only pennies from 38 different markets. In the Heart of the sea is a movie about a whale ship that encounters a sperm whale, which later inspired Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. The movie is reported to bring in only $12 and $14 million on a budget of $100 million to produce.
