When Caitlyn Jenner announced that she was transitioning to a woman 20/20 ratings hit a new high. But the two-year follow-up may have actually hurt the TV series.
According to reports, the new Caitlyn Jenner interview actually brought the ratings down.
“Friday’s one-hour 20/20 was down 85% among adults 18-49 from the two-hour April 24, 2015 interview, that was Jenner’s first real revelation to the world of who she was becoming. However, with all the hype power behind last night’s show and plugging Jenner’s new The Secrets of My Life book, the ABC News mag took an 11% demo decline from its April 14 show – which received barely any such promotion.”
This news comes after E! Canceled Caitlin Jenner’s reality show I AM Cait after low ratings. “There just weren’t enough viewers,” a production insider reportedly told Radar. “The show can’t compete with other programming.” In fact, the season 2 premiere in March earned less than 750,000 viewers.
In addition, a source told reporters that “Caitlyn just wasn’t relatable. Trans viewers did not see her as one of them.”
