Hugh Grant reveals that filming love scenes can be difficult but, he just loves filming sex scenes.
In August, Hugh Grant revealed to the world, via Howard Stern’s radio show, that “If you ask me the question do I think human beings are meant to be in 40-year-long, monogamous, faithful relationships, no.” Then, in a recent interview with W, he explains what it is like to film sex scenes.
Your love scenes in Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill are considered to be some of the most romantic of all time.
Love scenes are extremely difficult. You’re always within a millimeter of sentimentality and “yuck.” But sex scenes are something else! The conventional response to sex scenes is that they’re horrible and not sexy and it’s all so unnatural. But I’ve always found filming sex scenes to be quite a turn-on. I like the experience of being in a sexual position when you’re not supposed to be in one.
While, Hugh Grant is not the first person to comment on sex scenes. He probably is the first actor to explain how much he enjoys doing it. For example, Margot Robbie explained what it was like to film a sex scene with Leonardo DiCaprio calling it “awkward.” According to Robbie, simulating sex in front of “tons of people” is about as comfortable as you think. “There isn’t an option,” Robbie said. “It’s just like, This is what you need to do—get on with it. The sooner you do it, the sooner you can stop doing it.” And how awkward is it, exactly? “It’s so awkward,” Robbie said.
