Brie Larson locked herself in a room for a month in order to prepare for ‘Room‘.
In spite an acting career that spans almost twenty years, you shouldn’t feel bad that you haven’t ever heard of Brie Larson.
Fans of the indie film community may be familiar with her role as careworker in Short Term 12, or for playing Amy SChumer’s sister in Trainwreck, but 26-year-old Larson can still go out in Los Angeles without worrying about TMZ taking photos of her shoes or talking about who she is dating next.
However, she decided to change all that with her latest movie role. For good or bad, Larson is being discussed as the next Jennifer Lawrence and her emotionally wrenching performance in the movie Room, for which she has been nominated an Academy Award in the best Actress category, is widely expected to earn her first Academy Award.
‘It seems so far removed from my reality,’ she says of the Oscar buzz. ‘Even talking about it feels like planning your dream wedding when you don’t have a boyfriend; there’s just no point. I’m so thrilled that the movie is resonating with [audiences], and that is honestly all I could ever have hoped for.’
Adapted from the best selling novel by Emma Donoghue, Room is based on the case of Josef Fritzl, and the movie is not an easy watch. Larson plays Ma, a young woman who has been kept prisoner in a garden shed for seven years, and has given birth to a son, Jack, now five, the result of sustained rape at the hands of her captor.
And apparently, she locked herself in a room for months in order to get into character. According to an interview with q on CBC, the actress reveals how she wanted to prepare for the movie.
While everyone is praising Leonardo DiCaprio for freezing his balls off in The Revenant, Brie Larson did the same thing for her movie Room. We will just have to wait and see if she will actually beat America’s sweetheart Jennifer Lawrence.
