No one envisioned the outer-space action adventure created in 1977 by George Lucas would turn into a multi-billion dollar empire. Star Wars is now a significant franchise in the entertainment industry with consistent quality content released over OTTs and movie theaters. New and aspiring actors always want to be a part of the decades-spanning franchise.
It changed the world back with the first release when stars like Mark Hamil, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and more introduced us to the epic space opera. But now, many actors miss out on casting for Star Wars due to either no information about the upcoming releases or now knowing about the casting process.
Below we will outline a few major upcoming “Star Wars” projects and show you how to get cast in a “Star Wars” production.
How to Get Cast in a Star Wars Production
When Daisy Ridley got the part of Rey in 2013, she was told by JJ Abrams that she was not taking a role in a movie but being a part of a religion. And indeed, so since, according to the 2011 census, 177,000 people wrote Jedi under the religion section, declaring their love for the franchise. Of course, it was ruled out as NOT a religion by the Charity Commission later, but you can sense how people follow Star Wars.
Like any other big production house, Star Wars also holds auditions and let new talents tap into every shelf of their acting skills. Once you are done with the audition, it’s all about waiting for that casting call for Star Wars. The only problem many actors face is that they miss the movie announcements that come long before the production(which usually takes months or sometimes years) starts. We have compiled a list of movies with their estimated release dates(years) from the Star Wars franchise.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Expected Release: 2023
Widely acclaimed for her direction in Wonder Woman 1984, Patty Jenkins was scheduled to work on and release the upcoming addition to Star Wars movies titled Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. Unfortunately, some differences between Lucasfilm and Patty Jenkins have delayed the process and release.
If you have been a gamer, you may have caught the reference to iconic video game series with the same name developed as a fight between an Empire and the rebel pilots. Patty confirmed her involvement through a video in December 2020, where she talked about her connection with the Air Force and her dream to make the “greatest fighter pilot movie ever.”
Star Wars Movie from Taika Waititi
Expected Release: 2025
A Star Wars movie written by the Oscar-nominated scriptwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns and the MCU director Taika Waititi is on the cards too. Disney has two Star Wars movies penciled to be released in December 2025 and anytime in 2027. We are hoping the first one to be Taika’s work since Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, has publicly shown her excitement to work with Taika.
Recently, Kathleen said, “Taika’s approach to Star Wars will be fresh, unexpected, and…unique.” “His enormous talent and sense of humor will ensure that audiences are in for an unforgettable ride,” she further added.
Stars Wars Movie trilogy by Rian Johnson
Expected Release: Unknown
The Last Jedi director has already become a favorite for someone at Lucasfilm and Disney. Just before Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s theatrical release, Rian Johnson has already signed up for a brand new trilogy for the franchisee. With limited details on when it will release, it’s an excellent opportunity for new actors to be a part of the Star Wars cast. Disney announced that the trilogy will feature many “new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.” Considering how impactful and fresh The Last Jedi felt, we couldn’t be more excited to see Rian let loose in the creative galaxy of spaceships and adventures.
So here we have three major Star Wars projects about to start shortly. If you want more information on casting for Star Wars, keep the following Project Casting blogs and jobs.
