The cast and crew of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are now doing media and press coverage for the movie. In the process, the cats are sharing their thoughts on the greater Marvel cinematic universe. In turn, this has led to an interesting quote from Dave Bautista on podcast one. Bautista, who is expected to team up with Spider-Man in the upcoming Avengers movie, believes it is only a matter of time until Spider-Man is finally back under the Marvel Studios banner, rather than being involved with Sony Pictures.
“Spider-Man is the one I’m looking forward to. I love that kid — I love Tom Holland. I also love that they’re staying so true to the comics with this whole series and I think that’s because Marvel Studios has gotten involved. I think before; I think it was Sony who had control. And I think they’re doing a partnership now, but I think they will — I don’t know this for sure – but I think they’re going to re-acquire Spider-Man.”
It is important to note that Bautista probably has little to no influence in bringing Spider-Man back to Marvel. As a result, this is all speculation, but you have to think Marvel is probably considering picking back up the Spider-Man character. That said Sony is on track to produce a Venom movie for 2018, which will have no ties to the Marvel cinematic universe.
Overall, it begs the question would marvel be better off with Spider-Man joining the list of characters full-time? Most importantly, is it worth millions if not billions of dollars to buy back the character? That is a question Disney executives will have to answer – but if it were up to Bautista, I am pretty sure the contract would have been signed, sealed, and delivered.
