Amy Adams says she’s not afraid of getting old in Hollywood.
Amy Adams is one Hollywood’s biggest actors. Her biggest role in recent years was in the movie American Hustle where she played the girlfriend of a con-artist. However, reports surfaced that Christian Bale had to protect the actress from the victimizing director, David O. Russell. In fact, according to e-mails leaked by the Sony Hack producers said the following about the director. “He grabbed one guy by the collar, cursed out people repeatedly in front of others and so abused Amy Adams that Christian Bale got in his face and told him to stop acting like an asshole.”
On top of being victimized on set of American Hustle, Amy Adams was paid far less than her co-stars, according to reports. “Amy Adams got $1.25 million and seven points for working 45 days” meanwhile, “Lawrence worked 19 days and was paid $1.25 million and got $250,000 in deferred compensation. She also got seven points in a back-end pool that kicked in after cash break zero.” Amy Adams worked more days and got paid less than Jennifer Lawrence and all of the male co-stars who worked even fewer days than Adams.
After Dakota Johnson recently bashed the film industry for being “f–ing brutal” for not casting older women, Amy Adams is standing up and saying she is not afraid about getting older.
The 41-year-old actress told The Times’ Saturday magazine, that ‘hopefully, I can continue acting as my face continues to fall south’. She added that women’s faces start to change faster after turning 41, with just looking in the mirror becoming about ‘meeting a new person every day’.
The Oscar nominated actress said: ‘Once you turn 40, you begin to meet a new person in the mirror every morning. I say, ‘Oh hello. I know you.’ You can repair yourself, but it takes a little longer.’
Adams also pointed out that she does not enjoy the red carpet. Instead, her favorite part of awards season is actually getting ready before the award ceremony.
However, since having her 5-year-old daughter, Adams revealed that she enjoys wearing workout clothes instead of designer attire. ‘I surrender to momhood and default to workout clothes.’
While Adams maybe optimistic about the film industry, many actresses are upset with the recent trend of casting younger women for older roles. In fact, Anne Hathaway also spoke about being a victim of an industry that favors casting young actors. The 32-year-old actress revealed that she is already losing roles to actress far younger than her.
‘When I was in my early twenties, parts would be written for women in their fifties and I would get them.’
She added: ‘Now I’m in my early thirties and I’m like, “Why did that 24-year-old get that part?” I was that 24-year-old once. I can’t be upset about it, it’s the way things are.’
But, what may make Adams different is that she is already older than most working actresses and is still landing some of the biggest roles in her career.
