Producer Barbara Broccoli, who is in charge of the James Bond franchise, has dropped a major hint that 007 could next be played by a black or female actor.
Barbara, 57, whose father Albert “Cubby” Broccoli turned Ian Fleming’s novels into a spy franchise, was asked if we could expect to see a female Bond or a black 007.
‘These films tend to reflect the times so we always try to push the envelope a little bit,’ she replied. ‘Anything is possible.
‘Right now it’s Daniel Craig, and I’m very happy with Daniel Craig, but who knows what the future will bring?’
Barbara has already reinvented Bond once, from a tall, dark-haired assassin to Daniel Craig’s blonde appearance.
Craig declared in 2015 that he would rather “slash his wrists” than play 007 again, but was persuaded last year, with the help of a $100+ million pay check, to sign up for a fifth movie.
Two years ago, filmmaker Steven Spielberg said Idris Elba should be the next James Bond. “I think Idris would be my first choice of Bond if Daniel decides not to come back,” Spielberg told The Express.
