Open casting call for “Sanctuary City” filming in Portland, Maine.

Attention actors! There is an exciting opportunity for you to showcase your talent! We are casting for the theatrical “Sanctuary City” production in Portland, ME. AEA and non-union talent are encouraged to submit, and local hires are preferred.

“Sanctuary City” is a thought-provoking play set in a small American City post-9/11. It tells the story of two teenagers, G and B, who seek refuge in each other from their harsh living environments. When G becomes a naturalized citizen, she and B plan to marry so that he can remain in the country and pursue his dreams. But as time passes and complications mount, their plan threatens to fracture their closest friendship.

We are looking for talented individuals to fill the following roles:

  • G (she/her) – Open Ethnicity, 18+ to play High School. Brought to the United States as a child; Best friends with B; Caught in a cycle of harsh circumstances, and hopeful for a better future; Playful and resilient; Seeking non-white-identifying actors for this role.
  • B (he/him) – Open Ethnicity, 18+ to play High School. Brought to the United States as a child; Best friends with G; B must make his way when his mother is forced back to her country of origin; Care-taking and cautious; Seeking non-white-identifying actors for this role.
  • Henri (he/him) – Open Ethnicity, the 20s. First-generation American born to immigrant parents; Loves B and protects him fiercely; Stable and skeptical; Will consider white-identifying actors for this role.

The first rehearsal for “Sanctuary City” will occur on or about July 17, 2023, with tech rehearsals from August 13-16, 2023. The play’s first performance will take place on August 17, 2023, with the last performance on September 3, 2023. The salary for this position is a $1200 stipend or “special appearance” AEA rate.

OPEN CASTING CALL: SANCTUARY CITY, PORTLAND, ME

SANCTUARY CITY: In a small American City post-9/11, two teenagers who were brought to America as children seek refuge in each other from their harsh living environment. When G becomes naturalized, she and B hatch a plan to marry so that he can legally remain in the country and pursue the futute of his dreams. But as time passes and complications mount, the young friends find that this act threatens to fracture the closest relationship either has ever had.
