This fall, award-winning director Jennifer Phang (Advantageous, Half-Life) is set to commence production by co-executing a script written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer (Magic: The Gathering). Take advantage of this exciting new project!
The Descendants franchise has enchanted viewers with its imaginative creation of two captivating worlds, from the peaceful paradise known as Auradon to the ragtag sanctuary on Isle of the Lost. Here we meet descendants of Disney’s most iconic personalities, including some notorious villains. Now in The Pocketwatch movie, viewers can travel through a rabbit hole into an unfamiliar and unpredictable Wonderland – the same magical destination made famous by Alice in Wonderland!
To avert a forthcoming coup in Auradon during the celebration of the newborn royal baby, Red – the sharp and rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland – must work alongside Chloe, Princess Cinderella’s perfectionist, and athletic daughter. Seven original songs and Disney classic melodies will propel them through their journey: enabled by White Rabbit’s pocket watch, they bewitchingly travel back into time with one goal – stopping this event before it can incur disastrous outcomes.
The production designer for the franchise’s return is Mark Hofeling, renowned for his work in films such as Descendants, Zombies, and High School Musical. Executive producing this exciting project is Gary Marsh, while Alexis Frank Koczara and Christine Smith Shevchenko take on casting duties; they’re both set to be part of Disney Branded Television’s upcoming The Naughty Nine and working on The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
“With a captivating script and Jennifer Phang’s directorial vision, we’re setting a new high bar of creativity and imagination with a movie that ups the ante on a story, song, and dance to entertain young viewers, their families, and the global fan base that grew up with the aspirational story of ‘Descendants,’ said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television. “We join them in anticipation as we prepare to deliver a great new entertainment experience to Disney+.
“Regarding directing the upcoming movie, Phang said, “The Pocketwatch presents a delightful canvas with fantastical world-building. Musicals sparked my imagination when I was a kid and are a huge part of what drew me to filmmaking. I think that’s because they have a way of conveying these lovely, nuanced ideas through song and expressive movement. I’m also always inspired by the diversity of families that exist all around the world. So I really jumped at the chance to craft a supercharged musical experience and explore some new, invigorating themes inside an expansive Disney universe.”
