Netflix has announced that it is working on a new season of the British drama Top Boy. The new 10-part season will premiere in 2019 and will pick up where the original show left off, with the original cast reprising their roles.
The show centers around two drug dealers who return to London from exile who team up and attempt to dominate the drug trade. Netflix broke the news last November 8th saying, “Several months ago, @Drake came to us with a passion to help bring #TopBoy back to life, with the original creative team. And so, in 2019, we’re going back to the Summerhouse Estate for an all-new chapter of @TopBoyNetflix. The first two seasons were broadcast on Channel 4 and are currently both available to view on Netflix. The last season ended in 2013. Cast to join the new season are Top Boy’s original creative writing team: Charles Steel, Alasdair Flind, Ronan Bennett and Yann Demange. Bennettwrote the first two seasons and is signed up to write the third, said he was delighted with the planned revival. Drake and his business partner Adel Future’ Nur have signed on to executive produce with Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson.
Vice president of original content for Netflix, Cindy Holland, said: “We couldn’t be more excited for Netflix members around the world and a new generation of fans to discover the authentic, raw and real world of Top Boy. “Drake came to us several months ago with a passion to help bring this series back to life, and we’re thrilled to support the original creative team to do just that.”
