Acting Auditioning for an upcoming Stage Reading Drama Play, “Finding Serenity“.
Looking for male and female actors, experienced as well as non-experienced actors are welcome. Non-union preferably, but union actors are welcome to audition as well. This is for serious minded actors/actresses and you must have weekends available for rehearsals/events.
No this is not like spoken word or poetry, this is live acting while reading a script in front of an audience. This will be a great way to start your acting career and build your acting resume.
The casting consist of 11 actors, 6 casting roles are left.
Dorothy Mae Dodson (The Mother) — (Black Female) Dorothy is a 56 years old holy than thou woman. She is your average black southern mother that comes off strong with her tone and use of words. Although she comes off strong in personality, she loves her children.
JaMarre Johnson — (Ethnicity can consist of; White, Black and/or possibly Hispanic) between the ages of 23-27. He doesn’t know how to approach women. He knows what he wants in a woman, knows what he likes but don’t quite know what to say to them, especially when it’s someone he already knows.
Vance Wiggins — (Black male) Vance is between the ages of 23-27; he has dreams of being a lawyer in NYC, but he has a problem trying to make that dream a reality. . . His dad is his problem. Vance doesn’t know how to stand up to his dad and be his own man. Vance is smart, well-educated and he wants to achieve more out of life and not live the life his dad wants him to live.
Ryan Thompson (White Caucasian Male) between the ages of 45-55. He is a very understanding man that loves his son name Wesley. Wesley is Bi-racial and his father Mr. Ryan has had his fair share of racial backlash from his own parents. Mr. Ryan’s past of mistreatment from this father and mother makes him a better man and he loves his son unconditionally.
Aunt Lula May — (Black Female) between the ages of 50-60. She is cool, understanding and knows that two wrongs don’t make a right. Lula is very supportive of Sidell (her nephew), Being that Aunt Lula is Sidell’s aunt, she knows a lot of secrets that Sidell don’t know about his own mother.
Miss Johnson — (Black Female) between the ages of 50-66. The nosy, messy, gossiping neighbor. . . She knows everybody business. If Miss Johnson hears it, then it must be true. This elderly church going woman stirs up mess and gossip to find out what’s true.
Do not let the ages of the characters discourage you from auditioning. With makeup/costumes we can make younger actors look older and older actors look younger. If you are 21 and want to audition for a role that’s in their later 20’s or older, by all means audition.
