About Showtime’s ‘The Good Lord Bird’:
Showtime has ordered an eight-part limited series from Blumhouse Television. The series is based on the National Book Award-winning novel of the same name by James McBride. Oscar, Golden Globe and Tony nominee Ethan Hawke will star as 19th-century abolitionist John Brown and is co-writing and executive producing with award-winning producer Mark Richard. The series is told from the point of view of Onion, a teenager who becomes a member of Brown’s family during the time of Bleeding Kansas, which eventually develops into the famous 1859 raid of the Army depot at Harpers Ferry. Brown’s raid failed to spark the slave revolt that he was wanting but was a major event that led to the Civil War.
