Master P’s biopic, King of the South, is now holding an open casting call for the new movie.
The movie will star Queen Latifah and The Wire’s Wendell Pierce. The new movie will focus on the rapper’s life from his tough childhood in New Orleans to his rise to fame in the rap industry with the success of No Limit records.
Master P changed the music industry in the 90’s with an 80 – 20 distribution deal with Priority records, the first of its kind. Master P would go on to sell over one hundred million records independently, making No Limit one of the most successful Hip Hop labels.
The film will highlight the rapper becoming one of the first rap mogul’s to make it to Forbes’ Top 100 list.
The film, King of the South will film primarily in New Orleans this Summer. The casting directors have scheduled an open call seeking talent to work on the film in possible lead and supporting roles as well as background extras.
According to the film’s website, they are looking for actors to play Master P, Silkk the Shocker, C-Murder, Mia X and others. “I would like to give New Orleans natives an opportunity to play major roles in this film, I want the movie to have an authentic feel,” Master P said in a statement. “I believe there are so many talented actors and actresses that just need a shot.”
“The timing is right for me to tell my story, it was tough back then especially being from the South, New Orleans was the murder capital at the time,” Master P said. “I want others to learn from my mistakes and understand my work ethic of never giving up, no matter what it may look like.”
