‘Leavey’ starring Kate Mara open casting call for extras in Charleston, South Carolina
‘Leavey’ starring Kate Mara (Fantastic Four, House of Cards) is now casting background extras and photo doubles to work on the new feature film as it films in Charleston, South Carolina.
The movie tittled, “Megan Leavey” is Cowperthwaite’s follow up to her critically acclaimed documentary film “Blackfish,” which explored the death of a SeaWorld trainer who was killed by an orca in 2010. She will direct the movie from a script written by Pamela Gray.
The movie centers around the true story of Leavey, a young Marine who turned her life around by enlisting in the K9 unit. There, she was teamed up with an aggressive combat dog named Rex. The two form a bond and were deployed to Iraq as an elite bomb sniffing team. Together they serve two tours of duty and complete more than 100 missions, saving hundreds of lives.
After she was wounded in combat, for which she receives a Purple Heart, Megan was forced to retire. She spent the next five years waiting to adopt Rex, who remained on active duty. When he ended on an euthanized list, Megan geared up for the fight of her life to bring the 11-year old German Shepherd home.
Cowperthwaite said: “This is a side of war that we don’t hear about. It is unbelievable what these two went through. It is an honor to be able to tell their story.”

CHARLESTON, SC: NEEDING FEMALES, AGES 18-LATE 20s (WHO APPEAR TO BE EARLY 20s) TO PLAY FEMALE RECRUITS ON TUE, OCT 20TH (Half of which must also be available to play GRADUATES ON WED, OCT 21ST.) THOSE SUBMITTING MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND A FITTING ON EITHER MONDAY, OCT 12TH, TUE OCT 13TH, WED, OCT 14TH OR THUR, OCT 15TH.
*** The Director has requested we use as many females with first hand military training or experience as possible. These will be long filming days and potentially physically demanding roles, so please only submit if you have the experience and/or are in good enough physical condition to simulate some of the rigors of military training. ***
Only submit If you are available to make the filming on Tue, Oct 20th, and the fitting on one of the dates listed. If you are also available to play a graduate on Wed, Oct 21st please notify me in your e-mail.
We always ask that you be available to work 12 plus hours. The pay is a guaranteed $80 total for up to 8hrs. Plus $15 for coming in for a fitting.
The call time on these dates could be anywhere as early as 5:30am to the afternoon. (I will try to give a more specific guestimate of call time closer to filming date.)
