ABC is holding a Natio8nwide open casting call for the new Freeform series (previously known as ABC Family) Dead of Summer.
Filming will take place in Vancouver, Canada and producers are looking for talent to audition for the lead role in the new TV series.
According to Deadline.com, Dead of Summer is a horror series created by the team behind Once Upon a Time.
Dead of Summer is labeled as part coming-of-age story, part supernatural horror story.
Dead of Summer is “set in the late 1980s when school is out for the summer, and a sun-drenched season of firsts beckons the counselors at Camp Clearwater, a seemingly idyllic Midwestern summer camp, including first loves, first kisses – and first kills. Clearwater’s dark, ancient mythology awakens, and what was supposed to be a summer of fun soon turns into one of unforgettable scares and evil at every turn.”
“Dead of Summer is about what happens when summer camp goes wrong – really, really wrong,” said ABCF EVP Karey Burke. “The horror genre is new for us and I’m thrilled to have Adam, Eddy and Ian bring their immeasurable talent to our network and usher us into this new space.”
Casting directors are now casting the lead role of “Drew” a transgender teenager. According to the casting call, casting directors are looking to “find an actor who is pre-transition as we have several flashback scenes of the character living as a girl, that will require the same actor. A Kurt Cobain type with an “I-don’t-give-a…” attitude, Drew is a camp counselor with zero interest in bonding with the rest of the group. While the other counselors party and swim, Drew hangs off on the edge with a walkman and a cigarette. Drew has something to hide from the other campers…SERIES REGULAR.”
