The Donovan Vernon

I could take you to my childhood and paint a picture of a young black queer boy in New York City. I could tell you stories about how I struggled while exploring creative and artistic expression, or about my adornment, admiration, and obsession with classical music after hearing it for the first time. I could share my feelings on discovering Alicia Keys, Beethoven, Chopin, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, and Celine Dion… But I wouldn't want to bore you. Let's jump to 2018, which was a remarkable year for me, The Donovan. I debuted my very first classical album, "Genesis Live," which streamed for over 177.2k minutes on Spotify alone! Additionally, I debuted my very first solo piano concert, which was sponsored by Georgia State University. I'd like to think of this as my debut in the industry as a professional. You may have seen my work, on many hit series, streaming on Disney, ABC, Hulu, Netflix, and the BET network, where I worked in various musical capacities with Grammy, Emmy, and Oscar-nominated and winning actors, musicians, and crew. I'm humbled to be able to introduce myself to the public as a dedicated and ambitious servant of the arts. I'm hardly your stereotypical classical musician. With an avant-garde style and an appreciation for all musical genres, no one traditional definition is sufficient and accurate enough to describe me as the idiosyncratic artist that I am. As a dedicated servant to the performing arts, music is all I have ever done, and it is all I will ever do. Thank you, Journey with me.
