MGM+ Caps Mary-Louise Parker and Ben Barnes for Stephen King-Authored Series, ‘The Institute’

Date:

Key Takeaways:

– Stephen King’s novel, ‘The Institute’, to become a limited series on MGM+.
– Mary-Louise Parker and Ben Barnes signed to star in the series.
– The series will consist of eight episodes, filming to take place later in Nova Scotia.
– Directed and executive produced by Jack Bender with Benjamin Cavell acting as writer and executive producer.

Stephen King’s acclaimed novel, ‘The Institute’, which unfolded a path of high-intensity suspense, will soon light up MGM+’s screens. The same hands that masterfully rendered the King series adaptation Mr. Mercedes, David Kelley and Jack Bender, were prepping up to turn The Institute into a limited series. It’s been nearly five years since then, and while Kelley dropped off the project midway, the project kept its course. Now, it’s gaining momentum and Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds and Mr. Mercedes) and Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone) are officially boarding as stars of the show.

MGM+ Prepares for ‘The Institute’

‘The Institute’ is set to feature eight thrilling episodes. Here’s the gist of it: Luke Ellis, a gifted 12-year-old, is whisked away only to wake up at The Institute, a facility housing children just like him, each one unique with special abilities. Enter Tim Jamieson, a disgruntled former police officer seeking peace in the nearby town, only to have it shattered as his path crosses with Luke’s.

Meet the Cast

Ben Barnes will take up the role of Jamieson, the ex-cop turned night knocker in a small town, while Parker’s Ms. Sigsby will head The Institute. Her character is defined as an iron-willed and charming director who fully believes in The Institute’s mission. MGM+ Studios will bring this intense series to our screens, with Jack Bender (Lost) directing and Benjamin Cavell (Justified) penning the script.

Upcoming Filming Schedule

Nova Scotia will serve as the filming grounds for the series later this year. Stephen King took the opportunity to express how thrilled he was about the decision to adapt ‘The Institute’. He showed faith in the skills of those working behind the scenes, stating, “The combination of Jack Bender and Ben Cavell guarantees that the results will be terrific.“

Shared Excitement

Similarly, bandwagoning the enthusiasm was Michael Wright, the head of MGM+, who lauded the opportunity to work again with Stephen King. Wright is certain that Jack and Ben’s creative vision and love for King’s writing style would bring the gut-wrenching story of The Institute to life. Jack Bender, too, seemed eager to work on another King-inspired show, expressing delight in continuing his collaborative relationship with MGM+ and Stephen King.

Gratitude All Around

Benjamin Cavell wasn’t left out either and chimed in with his appreciation for Stephen King, praising his collaboration as above and beyond expectations. He also expressed excitement about working with Jack Bender and MGM.

An exciting journey awaits fans of Stephen King and intrigued viewers alike as MGM+ brings another King’s novel to the screen. It would be interesting to see the portrayal of Parker and Barnes’ characters on screen. Let us know what you think about this development in the comments section.
