The Mammoth Lakes Film Festival 2024: A Brief Overview

Held in the picturesque region of Mammoth Lakes, California, the 10th Annual Mammoth Lakes Film Festival concluded successfully on May 26, 2024. The five-day cinematic feast witnessed the screening of over a hundred mesmerizing features and short films. An impressive sum of over $45,000 was awarded as cash prizes to the winners, including participants of the screenplay competition.

Marquee Winners at Mammoth Lakes Film Festival

Atikamekw Suns, directed and written by Chloé Leriche, bagged the highest jury prize for best narrative feature. Fabio D’Orta’s internationally acclaimed work, The Complex Forms, won the hearts of both the jury and the audience, bagging the waward for best international narrative feature. Other notable winners included Inheritance, directed by Matt Moyer and Amy Toensing, which received the Bravery Award for Documentary, while All I’ve Got & Then Some, directed by Rasheed Stevens and Tehben Dean, won the audience award for narrative feature.

This Year’s Selection and Jury Panel

The festival director and founder, Shira Dubrovner, proudly remarked on the record-breaking turnout of filmmakers this year. The festival has been a significant platform for unique, culturally significant stories, with a focus on promoting the voices of future cinematic visionaries. The jury panel this year witnessed the presence of many stalwarts from the industry, including Academy Award-winning producer Tim Moore (Malpaso Productions), Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Alex Mechanik, Emmy Award-winning producer Allison Amon, and many others.

Among other winners, Mediha, directed by Hasan Oswald, bagged the title for best feature documentary and won the audience prize for the same. Love in the Time of Recycling by Micah Vassau won the best screenplay award. The categories of Best Narrative Short, Best International Narrative Short, Best Documentary Short, Best Animation Short, and Best Music Video were won by “Night Milk”, “Ciela”, “#Way_Aurelio”, “Acid Green”, and “Hounds” by Puma Blue respectively.

These winners were accorded cash rewards and other perks such as Panavision Camera Rental Grants, Light Iron Postproduction Packages, and a Slated script and financial analysis bundle. Meanwhile, the Audience Awards in the categories of Best Narrative Feature, Best International Narrative Feature, and Best Documentary Feature were also held, with All I’ve Got & Then Some, The Complex Forms, and Mediha as the winners respectively.
