Disney CEO: ‘Very Difficult’ for Disney to Film in Georgia if Anti-Abortion Law Takes Effect

Date:

Both Disney and Netflix say they may leave Georgia’s film if the heartbeat law goes into effect.

The Walt Disney Company CEO, Bob Iger, says Disney may pull their productions out of Georgia if the state’s anti-abortion laws go into effect. In a recent interview with Reuters on Wednesday, Iger says the company would find it “very difficult” to keep their TV shows and movies in the state should the potential ban on abortions come into effect starting January 2020. That being said, Iger did not give a firm commitment.

“I rather doubt we will [stay],” Iger said. “I think many people who for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. Right now we are watching it very carefully.”

“I don’t see how it’s practical for us to continue to shoot there,” he added.

Brian Kemp signed a bill, which outlaws abortion after the detection of a fetal heartbeat. The bill is expected to go into effect on January 1, 2020.

Disney pulling their productions out of Georgia would potentially be disastrous for the state. Several of Disney’s hit movies including “Avengers: Endgame” and “Black Panther” filmed in Georgia. Several Hollywood influencers, and have said they would boycott in response to the law, while others have pledged to donate to groups fighting the new law including the America Liberties .
