Tom Selleck Voices Financial Concerns Despite Earning Millions

Date:

Key Takeaways:

– Actor Tom Selleck expressed financial concerns post the cancelation of the series “Blue Bloods”, despite earning nearly $4.4 million per season on the show.
– It’s reported that Selleck’s pleas for help were dismissed by CBS, given his significant income.
– He’s also known for turning down major Hollywood roles, most notably Indiana Jones and Han Solo.
– His career decisions led to opportunities for renowned actor, Harrison Ford.

As the curtains close after an impressive 275-episode run of Blue Bloods, veteran actor Tom Selleck has found himself in the headlines, but for unexpected reasons. The actor, who played Police Commissioner Frank Reagan for 14 seasons, expressed concerns about his financial stability after the show’s end. This comes as a surprise to many since Selleck was one of the highest-paid actors on the show, earning nearly $200,000 per episode.

Tom Selleck’s Financial Worries

Despite amassing an estimated net worth of $25 million throughout his career, the actor shared his concern over potentially losing his 63-acre ranch in Ventura County. Selleck revealed to CBS Sunday Morning the fear of selling his property unless he finds new roles.

The star’s whopping $200,000 per episode salary for “Blue Bloods” would bring his annual income to around $4.4 million for a 22-episode season. Cumulatively over 14 seasons, his earning from the show alone soars into tens of millions. Yet, his remark about potentially being unable to maintain his ranch sparked disbelief and criticism.

In response to Selleck’s comments, an insider source reportedly called him an “entitled brat”. This harsh critique derives from the pronounced wage disparity on the show, with several co-stars earning less than $100,000 annually and facing real economic strain after its cancelation.

Selleck, Ford, and the Roles That Could Have Been

Ironically, amidst this controversy, Selleck is also known for walking away from potentially career-defining roles. The actor famously turned down iconic roles such as Indiana Jones and Han Solo to focus on his TV career. These decisions, while personally fulfilling, eventually catapulted Harrison Ford to superstardom.

Interestingly, George Lucas initially offered Selleck the role of Indiana Jones, but due to schedule clashes with Magnum P.I., he had to decline. The part subsequently went to Ford who was Lucas’ second choice.

In an interview with Deadline, Ford openly thanked Selleck for this unexpected career boost. The Star Wars actor stated, “How I got the job? Tom Selleck had the job, but he had a commitment to a television series which he couldn’t get out of. I became the ‘second’ choice, and I’m very grateful to Tom. Thank you, Tom, man. If you’re listening, thank you again.”

In addition to Indiana Jones, Selleck allegedly also auditioned for Han Solo, providing Ford another significant role. These decisions undoubtedly shaped the trajectories of both Selleck and Ford’s careers in contrasting yet poignant ways.

As the discussions around Selleck’s financial status and career choices continue to evolve, fans can revisit the famous cop drama “Blue Bloods” on streaming platforms such as Paramount+ and Hulu. No matter the drama off-screen, Selleck’s formidable portrayal of Police Commissioner Frank Reagan will secure his spot in the annals of television history.
