About ABC’s ‘Will Trent’:
Will Trent is an American police procedural crime drama television series that draws from Karin Slaughter’s series of novels about the character. The show debuted on ABC on January 3, 2023. Following its initial success, ABC renewed the series for a second season, which premiered on February 20, 2024. In April 2024, the network announced that the series would return for a third season.
The series centers on Will Trent, a character shaped by his challenging childhood after being abandoned and growing up in the Atlanta foster care system. Despite his struggles with dyslexia, Trent has risen to become a Special Agent at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Known for his exceptional observational skills, Trent has solved more cases than any other agent at the GBI, which stirs some jealousy among his peers.
The plot thickens when Trent is tasked with investigating a corruption case within the Atlanta Police Department, which shares a building with the GBI. His successful resolution of the case leads to the arrest of multiple APD officers. Subsequently, his supervisor, Amanda Wagner, assigns him a new partner, Faith Mitchell, a resentful GBI temporary assignee and the daughter of one of the officers Trent helped to arrest.
Trent’s personal life is equally complicated. He maintains a turbulent relationship with Angie Polaski, a childhood friend from foster care who now works as a detective with the APD. Polaski’s partner, Detective Michael Ormewood, often finds his work intersecting with Trent’s, which frequently brings the former foster care companions and their respective partners into collaboration and conflict.
