Warner Bros. “Akira” is now casting lead speaking roles.
Casting directors are now casting actors, models, and talent to work on the upcoming Warner Bros. feature film “Akira” by Taika Waititi.
Producers are seeking the following roles:
- KOICHI: Male, to play JAPANESE, English speaking. Legal 18-20’s to play 17: Constantly forced to punch up in order to survive. Fearless to the point of recklessness. Haunted by the loss of a loved one. LEAD.
- MISA: Female, to play JAPANESE, English speaking. Legal 18-30: Beautiful, intelligent, strong-willed. Member of anti-government organization trying to save her city. LEAD.
- REINA: Female, to play ASIAN, English speaking (JAPANESE a plus). Legal 18-20’s to play 17: Gentle, kind, cute, compassionate. Member of a biker gang; cares deeply for Koichi. SUPPORTING LEAD.
- TAKAMATSU: Male, to play ASIAN, English speaking (JAPANESE a plus). Legal 18-20’s to play 18: Large, tough, loyal, short-fused. Member of Jun’s gang; close friend. SUPPORTING LEAD.

About Taika Waititi’s ‘Akira’:
Akira is an upcoming Japanese-American sci-fi feature film based on the Japanese manga, Akira, by Katsuhiro Otomo. The film will be directed by Taika Waititi and will be distributed by Warner Bros. on May 21, 2021.
Warner Bros. had acquired the option to produce a live-action remake since 2002. However, the project had fallen through many hands in the years that passed.
Warner Bros. is doing a nationwide open casting call for lead speaking roles for the upcoming Taika Waititi’s ‘Akira’. Akira is currently set to release on May 21, 2021.
The movie’s plot is as described: “A secret military project endangers Neo-Tokyo when it turns a biker gang member into a rampaging psychic psychopath that only his former friend and a group of psychics can stop.”
According to the state of California, the live-action film is set to be produced entirely within the state in 2019, earning a US$18.5 million tax credit from the state and the California Film Commission. Filming from this is expected to take about 71 days starting in July 2019.
