Recently, James Cameron hosted an AMA on Reddit and he gave some big details on the upcoming Avatar sequels.
It was previously announced that Cameron was going to film all three sequels all at once and that both Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana were set up to return. Cameron also announced that he plans on using underwater motion-capture.
“We have kept a team of digital artists on from ‘Avatar’ in order to test how we can create performance capture underwater,” he said.
“We could simulate water [in computer graphics], but we can’t simulate the actor’s experience, so we are going to capture performance in a tank.”
But, what was not previously known was Cameron expects to complete the script for the Avatar series in six weeks.
Here is what he said in his recent Reddit AMA:
The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously.
They’re essentially all in preproduction now, because we are designing creatures, settings, and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks.
The biggest pressure I feel right now is cutting out things I love to get the film down to a length that is affordable. There hasn’t been a problem finding new and wonderful things to include in the movie.
This seems like Avatar is going to be a major production with new filmmaking technology, acting, and creatures.
