The Apollo Theater is now holding online auditions for its world-famous Amateur Night at the Apollo.
For the first time in history, it’s holding auditions only online.
Starting this week, singers, dancers, rappers, comedians and more can submit a video up to five minutes in length.
Previously scheduled in-person auditions for April have been canceled.
Online submissions have been available to artists sound the world since 2017, but moving to a completely online format is a first.
“Amateur Night began in 1934 during the Great Depression, and has persisted through some of America’s most challenging moments. Amateur Night is a symbol of American perseverance in the face of adversity,” said Apollo Theater Executive Producer Kamilah Forbes. “We remain committed to providing a sense of community to our audiences and artists even if they can’t walk through our physical doors, and providing an exclusive online platform during this pandemic will allow us to continue the great tradition of bringing the best emerging acts from around the world to the Apollo stage.”
The talent competition dates back to the 1930s and has helped launch the careers of amazing hit entertainers, including Ella Fitzgerald, Luther Vandross and Lauryn Hill.Â
