I have had a multi-faceted career as a professional photographer beginning in the early 1960’s, having
worked as a photojournalist both in Europe and the U.S. shooting for United Press International. I was based
in Florence, Italy for six years and covered the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact’s invasion of Czechoslovakia in
both Prague and Bratislava for UPI in 1968. Back in the United States in the 70’s and 80’s, I shot advertising
print photography for ad agencies and editorial photography for magazines.
Over the following decades, some of my most memorable assignments included photographing the Martin
Luther King Jr. funeral procession in Atlanta, Hank Aaron’s historic 715th homerun game and the news
breaking photo of the Atlanta Constitution’s editor-in-chief Reg Murphy, moments after his release from
being kidnapped.
From the 1970’s until 2017 I shot for the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus and traveled with the
circus to a number of venues photographing many famous acts and the legendary Ringling clowns.
With the advent of Photoshop, my interests and passion for photography expanded to include Fine Art
Photography as another aspect of visual expression. I license my work through art publishing arrangements
and have developed a following of enthusiastic collectors from my gallery exhibitions. My images are
produced as limited and open edition prints of varying sizes printed with pigment inks on high quality
archival papers, fine art canvas and aluminum.
I have been a member of the Roswell Photographic Society for many years and have both exhibited my work
and been a judge at times. Several of my images have been honored at RPS themed competitions. I am also a
member of the A2D (Analogue to Digital) Photographers group in Atlanta which exhibits each year at an
Emory University gallery during the annual Atlanta Celebrates Photography exhibition.
I’ve had a parallel career along with photography. I was a professional chef for about 20 years following my
years in Italy where I learned the cuisine of Tuscany. I’ve worked in various restaurants, and during a two
year period in the 90’s I was the private chef for Rankin Smith Sr. and his wife. The Smiths were the original
owners of the Atlanta Falcons.
