Jordan Peele’s ‘Candyman’ Delays Release Date Until 2021

Date:

The Candyman reboot release date has been delayed until 2021.

Universal, MGM, Bron, and Monkeypaw have not released the movie’s specific release date of the upcoming Nia DaCosta and Jordan Peele movie. The COVID-19 pandemic already forced the cinema to postpone its original release date. The movie’s June movie premiere was pushed back until October 16. Studios are supposedly focused on releasing the film on theaters and not considering release the film on streaming sites.

The movie is a sequel to the 1992 film of the same name and is directed by DaCosta and co-produced/co-written by Jordan Peele. The movie’s storyline reads:

“For as long as the residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood were terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story about a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In the present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, a visual artist named Anthony McCoy and his girlfriend, a gallery director named Brianna Cartwright, moved into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by the upwardly mobile millennials. With Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini Green old-timer exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind the Candyman. Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening the door to a complex past that unravels his sanity and unleashes a terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.”

In relevant news, the Coronavirus is not only impacting release dates, but it also affects productions. A 51-year-old assistant director who’d died from COVID-19 after returning to work on a commercial production has shocked the film industry and renewed fears of safety on film sets.

According to a report by the Chicago TribuneTexas-based assistant director John Nolan went into cardiac arrest and died on August 26 after battling the illness for weeks.

Currently, it is not known where or when Nolan contracted the disease, it is clear he developed symptoms of the virus after he worked on commercial production in Austin, Texas in mid-July and tested positive for the Coronavirus on July 29. By, August 5 he was in ICU at a hospital and placed on a ventilator, according to public journal entries made by his family on website CaringBridge.

The director of ‘Candyman’ Nia DaCosta, will direct the sequel to ‘Captain Marvel’ for Marvel Studios.

According to The Wrap, Nia DaCosta will direct the project with Megan McDonnell, who worked on ‘Wandavision,’ writing the assignment.

The first ‘Captain Marvel’ movie starred Brie Larson and made $1.1 billion worldwide at the box office. Details surrounding the equal have not been released. However, Marvel said at 2019 Comic-Con the movie would directly lead into the vents of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”

Jordan Peele and director Nia DaCosta released the first trailer for their reboot of ‘Candyman.’
