An NYU screenwriting professor is now offering a free online screenwriting course.
NYU Film School has educated and helped launch the careers of some of Hollywood’s biggest actors, directors, writers, and producers.
Now, NYU professor John Warren is offering a screenwriting course online. While the course is not directly associated with NYU, according to No Film School, Warren does teach there.
Warren runs a site called Young Screenwriters. The site helps aspiring screenwriters to become better writers.
The program website states: “The world is a better place when more people are empowered to tell their stories. But for too long, quality screenwriting courses were only available to young people who lived in big cities and could afford to pay a premium. That’s why Professor John Warren, an award-winning NYU Tisch professor, and professional screenwriter/producer, launched Young Screenwriters. This online writing program can be used in any classroom or individually by students. Now, young screenwriters can learn to write short films no matter where they are and at a price that’s affordable. It’s rigorous, but fun, too. We promise!”
The free program centers around short stories, which Warren argues is essential to a screenwriter’s voice.
