Sony Pictures’ Marvel film Madame Web has added Sydney Sweeney to the cast as co-star, according to Variety.
Deadline adds that S.J. Clarkson is signed on to direct the film, which will be written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. In the comics, Madame Web is said to be an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis who has been linked to a life-support machine that looks like a spider web. She was unable to actively fight any villains because of her age and medical condition. Her psychic sensory abilities could lead to Sony creating Doctor Strange, according to insiders.
It’s unclear who Sweeney will portray in the film. Sony is hoping to continue its hot run with Madame Web, which made over $500 million worldwide after Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home earned over $1.85 billion in global sales.
There are no further details to share at this time. The date of release has not yet been set.
