The ‘Weekend at Bernie’s: The Play’ is casting speaking and non-speaking roles in the United States
Casting directors are now casting actors, models, and influencers to work on scenes filmed in the United States from June 3-18, 2022.
Producers are seeking and hiring the following roles:
- 2-4 M/F (age 20-30) ensemble members/stagehands for both speaking and non-speaking roles.
- Must be comfortable quickly and safely maneuvering set pieces off and on stage, and occasionally moving limp, deadweight actors on and off stage.
- For dialogue roles, preference will be given towards fit/muscular types. Open to newer faces looking to have fun and be part of a hit show.

WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S: THE PLAY

Performances Thurs-Sat nights, 8 pm, June 3rd-18th.
Rehearsals begin May 15th.

SYNOPSIS: A zany, absurd, slightly macabre comedy about what happens when two opportunists try to convince everyone around them that their dead boss is… well, not dead. Adapted from the 1989 movie. This is a revival of a production originally produced in 2013.

Weekend at Bernie’s is a 1989 American black comedy film directed by Ted Kotcheff and starring Andrew McCarthy, Jonathan Silverman, and Catherine Mary Stewart. The film follows two young insurance company employees who discover their boss has been murdered and try to use the Weekend at Bernie’s concept to cover up the crime. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $30 million at the box office.
Weekend at Bernie’s was inspired by a Weekend at Tanglewood story told to screenwriter Robert Klane by his then-girlfriend about a group of college friends who discover their professor is dead and take him to a party instead of alerting the authorities. Weekend at Bernie’s was the first major studio film for both McCarthy and Silverman.
Weekend at Bernie’s was released on July 26, 1989, grossing $6,917,036 in its opening weekend. The film went on to gross $30,016,340 domestically and $5,689,011 internationally for a worldwide total of $35,705,351.
Weekend at Bernie’s received mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 73% “fresh” rating, based on 22 reviews, with an average rating of 6/10. The site’s consensus reads: ” Weekend at Bernie’s is decidedly lowbrow but undeniably fun, thanks largely to the winning chemistry between its two leads.” On Metacritic, the film has 53 out of 100, based on 14 reviews, indicating “mixed or average reviews.”
Weekend at Bernie’s was nominated for two Golden Raspberry Awards: Worst Supporting Actor (Terry Kiser) and Worst Screenplay (Robert Klane) but did not win either.
Casting Call Tips
When you’re invited to a casting call, remember to bring along your headshot and resume. The casting director will likely have a copy of your headshot and resume on hand, but it’s always good to have an extra copy just in case.
You should also be prepared to read from the script or sides (the portion of the script that pertains to your audition). If you’re asked to do a cold reading, which means reading from the script without any prior rehearsal, take a deep breath and give it your best shot.
Casting calls can be nerve-wracking, but try to relax and have fun with it. The casting director wants to see you at your best, so just be yourself and let your personality shine through.
